Ocular or Optical migraine symptoms vary from person to person. Ocular migraines, also called migraines with auras are characterized by visions of auras. This condition affects your vision and it can be a frightening experience if you’ve never had one before.
Imagine yourself suddenly having an odd sensation in the back of your eyes, Your eyesight feels a little off, you lose your balance and begin to feel nauseous, you put your hands over your eyes to block light because all lights and noise make you feel worse. You may see flashing lights, colored complex shapes and patterns or zig zag lines. These special effect visuals are called auras and may last from five to twenty minutes.
After the symptoms described above subside, you may or may not get a full blown migraine which consists of, among other symptoms, an intense throbbing headache on one side of the head. Some people also experience blindness on one half of their visual field, which affects one eye.
Some people only experience an aura and no headache, others do not experience the aura, only certain symptoms and a severe headache. As you can see, there are different types of migraines and the symptoms vary widely from patient to patient. There are certain natural treatments available to quell symptoms or even avoid migraines.
